There are many excellent parks in the Waterloo area.|
The Garman Nature Preserve is a county park located on Fox Lane. The site covers 40 acres of wooded landscape, containing groomed mulch walking paths, interpretive signage, restored Indian Mounds, and an eight car paved parking lot. Future nature trails are planned for the park, including a connection to the Waterloo Regional Trailhead site, which is along the Preserve's northern border.
Heritage Hills Park is located at Birch Street and Hickory Lane. It is open lawn practice fields surrounded by residential development and agricultural fields. Informal baseball back stops, 1 or 2 off street parking spaces. Children use it for football practices.
Waterloo Regional Trailhead is located at 760 McKay Way. Amenities at the Waterloo Regional Trailhead include: an interpretive center that opened on December 14, 2013; a multi-use, paved path encircling the park; covered pavilion with picnic tables; native plantings; and a paved parking lot. The Waterloo Regional Trailhead hosts a variety of educational programs and public events. A future hiking trail will connect the Trailhead to Garman Nature Preserve. The site is incorporated into a regional system of recreation trails promoted by the Glacial Heritage Area. |
Morrison Field is located on Minnetonka Way. It open lawn park space with on street parking and a small parking lot.
Veterans Memorial Park is centrally located downtown. Amenities include a gathering space with a covered performance stage, refurbished Maunesha Business Center, war memorial, limestone clad seat walls, water fountain and ornamental plantings. The Waterloo City Band gives several summer concerts at the covered performance stage.
Youker Park is located at Mill Street. It is a prairie area with a bike path and a bridge connecting to Firemen's Park and the Youth Center.

Firemen's Park is located east of North Monroe Street and north of Boorman Street. The Park is accessible from the west via Dickenson Street and from the south via Hendricks Street.
Amenities at the Park include: 1911 C.W. Parker Carousel (which is currently under construction), baseball and softball diamonds, field for soccer and football, nine-hole disc golf course, concession stands, playground equipment, pavilions and an asphalt path.
Events such as Memorial Day, the Fourth of July celebration and fireworks and the Chamber of Commerce Easter Egg Hunt (Saturday before Easter) are held in the Park.
